August's MONTHLY MANTRA:
"Love is Space." In anticipation of seeing them up close and personal, last night I watched the DVD concert by Deva Premal & Miten, Live in Byron Bay. Their
music, an expression of love and spiritual devotion through song and chant, has topped New Age charts and popularity polls in yoga studios and healing centers throughout the world for two
decades. Nearly all their music is composed of mantras, sounds that allow the mind to experience peace and stillness. Love is Space is the title of one of Premal's CDs, in which she
proclaims the title has become her personal mantra, reminding her that love has no borders and no boundaries. Many people often ask me how using a mantra, usually during a meditative experience, can quiet the mind. One only needs to watch this duo in concert to know the answer to that, yet using a
mantra can be done during meditation--or with music--to allow you to enter deeper levels of awareness and silence that always exist beyond normal noisy mental chatter. According to
Deepak Chopra, during the use of mantras you are not actually quieting the mind but rather with its repetition, silently or out loud, the mind sympathetically resonates with the mantra's
subtle energetic impulses. The resonant structure of the mantra mimics the fundamental properties of the field of pure awareness, taking you into that timeless, spaceless field of all possibilities.
Premal's music absolutely transports you to a place beyond time and space but it is her constant message
that love has no boundaries and no borders and that love is all and all is love that's transforming. Say the words daily as a reminder to yourself to live it, to express it, and to share it in your life. -article written monthly by staff employees
